Dear Friends,
OVERVIEW
“The Future is in Their Hands……but they still need our support and encouragement!”
Again, we read in our recent news media that NEA is working hard to latch on technology so as to enhance efficient clean up. In addition, NEA has also planned to improve productivity and raise standards in the environmental services industry by 2025. These expected actions came as a result of a declining workforce in this industry. It is reported that the environmental service industry has now more than 71,000 workers which works out to a ratio of 1 cleaner to every 86 citizens. For a small city-state this is not something to brag about. Let’s all work together as a Nation to reduce this number by at least 20% for 2023/2024.
Yes, keeping our environment clean and litter free is a daunting task to say the least. Our weekly patrols, CSR and VIA programmes have collected enough evidence (litter) to show that we are still a long way off to being a disciplined and socially responsible society. While we believe that new innovative ways of doing the work efficiently and with less manpower would help, Waterways Watch Society would like to stand our ground to say that the way to go for a more sustainable and a more cultured society and country is through education. Start them young!
