Last week was a quiet week for WWS due the COVID-19 situation still under P2H. We however managed to do one Virtual WWE KRILL for Fuchun Secondary School (40 pax) sponsored by SPH Foundation and one Corporate Talk for SEB which 50 staff attending (see photos). On Thursday night, our senior member Wai Tong on behalf of Waterways Watch Society, did a sharing on AYAN Singapore: Let’s Talk Sustainability (see photos). The event was broadcasted on facebook live and about 200 participants from ASEAN countries attended. On Sunday morning, we did a virtual orientation for 25 new members out of 30 who registered. In the afternoon, 12 members attended our virtual sharing session about Pang Sua Pond.
There was no weekday patrol at Punggol this week, but one member did routine maintenance and had a simple patrol walking in the park. The park was very quiet with few people around. The shelter anchor wires next to the footpath appear to have the luminous paint faded. The member temporarily applied some reflective tapes to warn users during the night. Above the dam between Punggol Waterway and Serangoon Reservoir, one screw jack cover was found vandalized for more than a month without action. Secured the damage cover with tape to prevent any injury on the sharp edge (see photos). On Thursday, we transferred 2 boats from Kallang to Lakeside and one from Lakeside to Punggol. Now we have 3 boats at Punggol and Jurong branch each and will allow for more boat activities.
On Sunday morning, at Marina, we did a simple bike patrol with only 2 members and a boat patrol with 4 members including the driver (see photos). The Bay Central Park area was basically quite clean, but lots of litter was found only at Duck Tour car park area (see photos). The bike group picked up 5kg of mainly plastic litter plus 4 masks. The boat group stopped three members of the public who intended to discard something into the reservoir at Kallang Riverside Park and they complied. They also found one shared bike was discarded under Sir Arthur Bridge (see photos). In the area in front of the viewing platform near Kallang MRT, a lot of litter was floating in the water (see photos). The boat group picked up 11kg of litter which was mainly plastic bags and some containing waste food. They picked 1 mask from water only. In the afternoon, 3 members came to Jurong Branch for pontoon maintenance and a short boat ride (less than 1hr). The overall area was quite clean, they picked 3kg of plastic litter and one mask (see photos). They spotted one fisherman in the State Land area, but the fisherman ran away when saw our boat.
To celebrate National Day, two members did a Kayak patrol and removed 45kg of litter, including 15 masks and 32 cans (see photos).
