Dear Friends,
This week was another quite week for WWS. Since these two months are exams period, program inquiry from schools was low. In addition, OBS cancelled two kayak clean-up and camping due to the unhealthy haze condition. Fortunately, the PSI dropped on Saturday morning, so 39 new citizens were able to do their Kayak Clean-up.
By taking advantage of this program off season, we did our house keeping and logistic preparation for Try-amazing race. We had an internal recce for Try-amazing race and finalised the activity stations.
CEO attended a meeting with SIT to discuss 2019/2020 FYP and did an interview with three students from San Francisco doing their masters on research and concern about water future and rising waters
Over the weekend, 5 members did bike patrol at Kallang Branch on Saturday morning, 4 members did patrol at Punggol Branch on Sunday afternoon including 3 new members doing orientation and 12 members at Jurong Lakeside Garden Branch on Sunday afternoon including 2 new members . Unfortunately, Kallang Branch had to cancel the patrol in the morning because of the haze, members did a great house cleaning for our facilities instead.
Additionally, 3 members did 2 weekday patrols at Punggol and noticed that park usage at Punggol was low despite regional PSI was within healthy level.
There were 2 engagements on illegal fishing, involved 6 individuals, one non-smoking engagement and engaged 20 foreign workers on anti-littering.
On Saturday, patrol members spotted lots of litter thrown outside the railing of BBQ pit in front of BLK 38A Bendemeer Rd (see photos). No dustbin around shouldn’t be an excuse for littering on the ground. Saturday group also rescued a fish entangled by discarded fishing line and released it back to water (see photos). Lots of cigarette butts spreading around railing in front of BLK 39 Upper Boon Keng Road (see photo).
On Sunday, members of Jurong team picked up 7 kg of litter near the edge of waterways with the help of long tongs, mostly old plastic bags and bottles. One carton box was found under a bridge containing group sheets and some big PVC bag, discarded and reported. The new water plants around the jetty in front of our office is nice But already place for litter to accumulate.
We still have people with bad social behaviour.
