Dear Friends, It is still during the June School Holidays but we managed to do one bike and foot waterways clean-up programme with St. Patricks School (29 pax), two corporate kayak programmes with Salesforce (20 pax) and Aviva (20 pax), a Gardening programme with Googles Asian Pacific (16 pax), a pedal-boat waterways clean-up programme with Li & Fung Centennial Pte Ltd (9 pax), a corporate talk at ANZ Office (40 pax) and a refresher LTA course on Saturday (12 pax). This weekend, we did not have any new members on orientation. However, we did receive five new applicants. This is a good start.
We had a total number of 29 members on duty this weekend. There was no weekday patrol for Punggol this week. A total of five safety boat support service was done this week. A late evening patrol was done by eight of our members on 9th June 2018 (Saturday) 1700 – 2100hrs. We engaged 4 pax for littering (3 Japanese and 1 Malay) during the evening patrol. There were 35 engagements done on anti-littering and one engagement for fishing at Punggol this weekend. However, there were two sightings at Kallang Basin over the week (reported to PUB).
The total litter collected this week was 58.1 kg. During the week, we continue to sight PMDs and PABs in the parks at Kallang and Punggol. Most are PMDs Foot-Scooter and often seen speeding silently. We also received two new enquiries relating to potential partnership/ sponsorship. It is still at the early stage of discussion though. In addition, we had our third discussion with OBS on the use of our site and possibility of attending our Kayak Clean-Up programmes. This trend is good on a sustainable basis. *There was still plenty of litter collected along the shoreline, mostly of plastic origin. We notice that there were regular hot spots around PA Water Venture, under Sheares Bridge, the frontal of the Singapore Flyer (see photos). Perhaps we can have more night patrols by enforcement officers covering such places.
In addition, Waterways Watch Society would also like to share a simple review of our programmes conducted in May 2018. Over the past month (May 2018), Waterways Watch Society had a total of 63 programmes, including 3 bike programmes, 10 kayak programmes, 3 boat patrols, 3 pedal-boat programmes, 2 assembly talks, 19 safety boat duties, 2 WWE at KRILL, 2 WWE at Pang Sua Pond, 4 WWE at Yishun Pond, 2 beach clean-up, 3 river monster, 7 river monster junior and others including 1 corporate lunchtime talk, 1 gardening and 1 mooring.
