Dear friends,
As we approach the school holidays, it was a short week this week due to Deepavali. During this week, we still managed to complete 10 events. 2 WWE programmes with Naval Base Primary School and Horizon Primary School, 1 River Monster session with Sengkang Primary School, 1 school talk for West Spring Primary School and attended a school exhibition at Fernvale Primary School. In addition, we completed 3 corporate Kayak programs and 2 safety boat. In total, we covered approximately 1200 participants and over 500 visitors at the school exhibition. This week we collected 28KG of litter, where 60% were of plastic origin.
During the week, we repaired our Punggol Buggy and did some facilities work at Punggol Office besides two days of weekday patrol. We are pleased to have received an update with NParks on our Jurong Site Office and will be meeting them next week to finalise their land plan our land plan with them and discuss sponsorship. Jetty at Jurong is work-in-progress.
A total of 37 members (including 4 new members) did duty this weekend however there was no Punggol Patrol on Sunday because of heavy downpour. We are delighted to receive 7 new sign-ups for membership during the first week of November.
There was a night patrol on anti-littering done on Saturday with 5 volunteers. Garden Crew came on both Saturday and Sunday.
In total, we made 184 anti-littering engagements and 3 Fishing engagements during this weekend.
Fishing continues to be a persistent challenge and speeding PMDs are still commonly sighted at Punggol and within Kallang Riverside Park.
On Sunday at about 1215 hrs. we were alerted by a public that a kayaker in front of our office appears to have collapsed as he was “slump from his kayak:”. One of our member (Ho) and one of Ban Seng’s worker ran into the water to save him only to find out that he was practising his Eskimo roll. It was a false alarm but both rescuers had gotten all wet including their handphones. The kayak individual involved was apologetic and explained that he could not practice his roll in front of PA as there were too many dragon boaters and boats around.
We will be submitting our proposal for OCBC Funding 2019 soon and we hope that it will be successful.
