Dear Friends,
We started the week with a small CSR bicycle programme for Neuri Pte Ltd for 11 pax, followed by a CSR foot programme for SPF for 35 pax, one with Empact Pte Ltd for Mondelez International for 50 pax, another Kayak Clean up programme with Capital International, Inc for 20 pax, and Schneider Electric for 36 pax. There were fewer school programmes this week, probably it is exam period this week, but we still managed to conduct a very successful booth at Nan Hua Primary School for over 1000 primary students and another Kayak Cleanup programme with 50 local and foreign students from a hostel in NUS. There was a corporate site visit by Infineon and a meeting with two SIT students doing their FYP 2019 project with WWS. During the week, we had two safety boat service. The total litter collected for our programs this week was 134.85KG, where 60% were of plastic origin.
A total of 47 members did their patrol duty this weekend including 9 new members on orientation at Kallang. 4 of our members participated in two weekday patrols at Punggol Waterways Point.
A total of 12 were engaged on fishing and 42 on anti-littering. Park monitoring also sighted potential illegal home stayer below the bridge at Crawford Bridge. We would like to thank PUB on a fruitful meeting and your accommodation to meet our CEO.
Some renovation work had been done around our container office in Punggol and a Co-Study area for Kallang Riverside Park has been set-up and ready for use. It will be open to all members who would like a quiet place to study or for meetings. We hope this will encourage more young members to come down more often and recruit new ones.
During the weekend, we had two meetings to discuss on Try-Amazing Race duties with 19 members present. There was also a media shoot on our work on Sunday by CNA, covering boat and bike patrols. This week we also replied to media enquiry on Sea Bins and did a media interview with CNA of our volunteers on duty on Sunday.
During this weekend, our kayak Patrol team picked up a Loudhailer and a shared Bike Handlebar besides the usual litter that consists of mostly plastics. Our Saturday Bike patrol team even found a plastic bag littered in the water. It was printed with the word ‘REDUCE’ which ironically reflects the persistent littering problem in Singapore.
We finally received our Letter of Authority from LTA this week. We will arrange a final briefing to update and recap changes in the area of PMDs and PEBs soon for our 14 Community Volunteers. PMDs and PEBs continue to be sighted at Kallang and Punggol including illegal fishing.
