Selamat Hari Raya Haji to all our muslim members, friends and partners. This week was rather short due to a Public Holiday on Wednesday but it was still an eventful week full of activities and programmes in Waterways Watch Society (WWS) where a total of three corporate programs and four school programmes were conducted.
We started the week with a Bike programme with Salesforce (40 pax), followed by a River Monster Programme with Northland Primary School (25 scouts) which is sponsored by Goldman Sachs Group. We also facilitated a Foot programme with KPMG (70 pax), a Kayak programme with NVPC (40 pax), a youth Kayak Programme with Buddhist Youth Group (16 pax) and a two-day Bike programme with Bedok Green Secondary School (20 pax per day) in Chinese. Unfortunately, it was raining heavily on the first day of the programme for Bedok Green Secondary School and a wet weather programme had to be conducted instead. In addition, we conducted a boat recce trip for teachers from Shuqun Primary School, who will be holding a Day Camp with us next week at WWS.
We also encountered a very disappointing and unfortunate event this week. We received a last minute cancellation from a large MNC, Micron, for their Beach Cleanup Programme with us at East Coast Park that was supposedly to be held on the 23rd of August. We were only informed of the cancellation after a programme reminder was sent to them. Furthermore, they have outstanding payment for an Office Talk that was conducted more than four months ago.
Over the week, we organised two weekday patrol duties at Punggol and our regular weekend duties at Punggol and Marina which involves a total of 33 members, including one new member and a foreign visitor from Vietnam. During the weekend patrols, we had a total of 43 anti-littering engagements (see photos below), 16 engagements in Fishing (Punggol and Marina).
Severe and dense algae growth were also observed in certain parts of the reservoir this weekend due to the weather. (See photo below)
Seventh month litter were also observed on the shoreline next to Fishing Zone and were sighted both at and around wws office at Kallang this week. Some of the litter were also found to have been blown into the waters due to the wind (see photos below).
