Dear Friends,
OVERVIEW
Waterway Woes and Wins: The Week We Said ‘Why Like That Still?!’
This week has been a whirlwind of activity for us, filled with meaningful efforts to protect our environment. Our CSR and VIA programs came through with an impressive 368 kg of waste collected, showing our collective dedication to a cleaner community. Meanwhile, on Sunday, August 25th, our Kayak team ventured out on patrol and gathered an additional 45 kg of trash. This substantial amount of waste underscores a pressing issue: our waterways are heavily polluted. We still have a long way to go in education and improving social behaviour!
Our waterways are more than just scenic spots—they are vital lifelines that support diverse ecosystems, provide drinking water, and offer recreational opportunities. Yet, they face mounting challenges from pollution, which threatens wildlife, disrupts natural processes, and can even affect human health. The waste we’ve removed this week is a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle to safeguard these essential resources.
We observed strong engagement from Gardens’ outsourced security (Aetos), but there have been some aggressive reactions from fishermen at our common jetty area towards them. It might be helpful if PUB could provide a direct contact for assistance and involve the SPF to prevent any physical confrontations. On a positive note, there have been no issues with smoking regulations; compliance has been good overall.
Additionally, this Sunday marked our new members’ orientation. There were 13 new members and at least 4 able to volunteer during weekdays. We had one program cancelled Sunday afternoon for scouts due to bad weather concerns. Thank you for being part of this important work and for contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment!
