This week, we are excited to shine a spotlight on our dedicated volunteers, particularly those who consistently uphold and ensure the well-being of our cherished gardens at WWS. Gardens hold immense importance as they serve as sources of fresh produce, contribute to clean air, and provide essential habitats for wildlife. Additionally, they play a crucial role in minimising food miles and carbon emissions. Beyond their environmental impact, gardens offer a meticulously planned space for our members and the general public to immerse themselves in, to allow themselves a break and appreciate the lush greenery. Now, we have our very own mango tree thanks to the love and care our volunteers have given to every plant and tree in the garden.
As mentioned in last week’s report, on Wednesday, 9th August 2023, a heartening display of unity and commitment unfolded as 18 dedicated members of the Waterways Watch Society (WWS) reconvened at the WWS Marina. This inspiring gathering marked a pivotal moment as they collectively embarked on a mission to nurture and rejuvenate the biodiversity pond. With a shared purpose and a strong sense of responsibility, these individuals embodied the true spirit of Singaporean pride and community.
In the realm of recent developments, we’d like to address a few key points in our report. Regrettably, there was an instance of miscommunication between our team and a corporate partner, leading to the unfortunate postponement of a CSR event. We understand the frustration this may have caused and are committed to implementing measures to enhance communication channels, ensuring smoother collaborations moving forward. Moreover, we encountered a scheduling oversight for another event, with our log-in time differing from the intended schedule. Fortunately, the situation didn’t result in any adverse outcomes, underscoring the importance of meticulous scheduling to prevent any potential inconveniences.
As we celebrate the remarkable dedication of our volunteers, we also acknowledge the valuable lessons learned from these challenges.
Summary of Activities conducted for the Week
In summary, the following activities were done for this week:
- We conducted 5 CSR and 0 VIA programs which were attended by 104 participants, and together they collected a total of 242 kg of litter. It was a hectic week for us.
- This week a total of 70 members were involved in CSR/VIA programs, talk, patrols, administration, housekeeping duties, and training.
- The total trash collected by the patrol groups was 76 kg.
- Boat Patrol. 3 boat patrols were carried out; 2 at Marina, and 1 at Punggol.
- Bike Patrol. A total of 4 Bike patrols were carried out; 2 at Marina, 1 at lakeside, and 1 at Punggol.
- Pedal Boat Patrol. A total of 1 Pedal Boat Patrol was carried out at Marina.
- Foot Patrol. No foot patrol was carried out.
Once again, we sincerely thank all members and volunteers, who came for patrol or for facilitating the CSR/VIA programs, for your time and dedication to the task. Without your support we would not have been able to achieve this.
