WEEKLY REPORT: 19 JUNE 2023 – 25 JUNE 2023

OVERVIEW

“Horrors in the Singapore River? ”

This week, while doing a program with participants from Salesforce, we approached what we thought was simply another piece of trash. Upon further inspection, we were terrified to realise what we thought was another piece of trash being what appeared to be a dead human hand, only to realise that the “hand” was actually a flesh coloured rubber glove that someone had irresponsibly thrown. 

Although we were extremely relieved to realise that the hand was simply a flesh coloured glove, seeing the glove made us reflect about the trash and litters in our reservoir and drinking waters. Had the glove really been a body, it would be in our reservoirs, where Singapore gets its drinking water. We would like to believe that this experience of seeing the glove really taught our volunteers and the participants from Salesforce the importance of reducing our wastage and disposing of our trash in a responsible manner. 

As we were faced with admin staff down with Covid and shortage of full-time staff, CEO Eugene and President Joo Kek had to come to the rescue and do presentations during this period. Luckily we were also supported with our two interns, part-time staff  and volunteers (regular and new members).  Thank you everyone.

Waterways Watch would also like to thank intern Hillary for assisting us these past months and in particular working on our Weekly  Report.

We wish her all the best in her further studies at Beijing.

Summary of Activities conducted for the Week

In summary, the following activities were done for this week:

1. We conducted 7 CSR and 0 VIA programs which were attended by 262 participants, and together they collected a total of 408 kg of litter. 
2. This week a total of 49 members were involved in CSR/VIA programs, talk, patrols, administration, housekeeping duties, and training 
3. The total trash collected by the patrol groups was 29 kg.
   1. Boat Patrol. 3 boat patrols were carried out; 1 at Marina, 1 at Punggol, and 1 at Lakeside. 
   2. Bike Patrol. A total of 3 Bike patrols were carried out; 1 at Marina, 1 at Punggol, and 1 at Lakeside.
   3. Pedal boat Patrol. 1 Pedal Boat patrol was carried out at Marina.
   4. Foot Patrol. No foot patrol was carried out. 

Once again, we thank all members and volunteers, who came for patrol or for facilitating the CSR/VIA programs, for your time and dedication to the task.
