Dear Friends,

OVERVIEW

“We got to still do much more!”

If we want to truly achieve good public hygiene, we have to be more serious in our effort and do much more sustainable action. Waterways Watch had a full back-to-back week, conducting a total of 10 CSR programmes (Allkin, American Express, Shell Eastern Trading, Huamin Primary School, Halliburton Far East, Cooley, Adobe, Salesforce, Maybank and BNPP) and 1 large school VIA with Huamin Primary School for 191 students. In total we collected 755.3 kg with plastic and cans the highest in numbers. It is really disappointing to be faced with so much litter especially in and along our reservoir waters (Marina). The conclusion is a no brainer – many still litter and pollute our environment. More education and awareness programmes are needed. Much more, and we cannot do this by public speeches and media coverage or with heftier fines. More Tell, Show and Do is the only way! Hands-holding. You see, you smell, you pick-up and you now understand and know ‘how dirty we still are!’.

During the week we were called upon to also support with 3 safety boat services and we would like to commend a regular partner of ours, DBI for incorporating litter picking before dragon boating. A great initiative to add value and meaning while enjoying our waters, dragon boating. We hope to fine tune this initiative and see more regular partnerships with DBI. Thank you, Jason, from DBI. If only more such vendors and even NSAs’ enjoying and using our waterways would follow this good example.. (Perhaps PUB may want to consider looking into this opportunity.)
