Dear Friends,

OVERVIEW

“In One Trip”

In a single trip into Kallang Waterways,, our pedal boat team gathered numerous masks, plastic bottles, cans, and styrofoam boxes. Were you aware that items like COVID-19 masks and styrofoam boxes release harmful and even hazardous chemicals into the water? These pollutants pose a threat to both our health and the environment.

Plastic bottles, on the other hand, not only contribute to visual pollution but also release harmful toxins as they decompose. The cumulative impact of these pollutants jeopardises not only aquatic life but also poses a significant threat to our health. It’s crucial to raise awareness about the environmental repercussions of seemingly small actions, such as littering, and encourage responsible disposal practices to safeguard both our waterways and the well-being of our communities.

Summary of Activities conducted for the Week

In summary, the following activities were done for this week:

  1. We conducted 5 CSR and 0 VIA programs which were attended by 250 participants, and together they collected a total of 278kg of litter.
  2. This week a total of 72 members were involved in CSR/VIA programs, talk, patrols, administration, housekeeping duties, and training.
  3. The total trash collected by the patrol groups was 73 kg.
  • Boat Patrol. 4 boat patrols were carried out; 2 at Marina and 2 at Punggol.
  • Bike Patrol. A total of 4 Bike patrols were carried out; 2 at Marina, 2 at Punggol, and 1 at Jurong Lakeside.
  • Pedal boat Patrol.  A total of 2 Pedal Boat patrols were carried out; all at Marina.
  • Foot Patrol. No foot patrol was carried out.

Once again, we sincerely thank all members and volunteers, who came for patrol or for facilitating the CSR/VIA programs, for your time and dedication to the task. Without your support we would not have been able to achieve this. Special mention to the teachers of Pathlight who came down in strength to participate in our kayak cleanup programme. Three cheers to the teachers, students and our facilitators! Young and old, we all must care for our environment. Sustainability is the only way forward.
