Dear Friends,

OVERVIEW

“We are Running Out of Time: Hand-in-Hand Joint Initiative”

This week’s focus was on the joint effort of land and sea cleanup operations, a core aspect of our mission at Waterways Watch Society. Our members’ dedication to regular patrols played a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness of waterways. Additionally, we were thrilled to witness corporations collaborating with WWS for their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, amplifying the impact of our collective efforts.

However, we faced a setback on Thursday when three CSR programs had to be postponed due to unfavourable weather conditions. It was a disappointing day for WWS, as we value every opportunity to make a positive change in our environment. Nevertheless, we remain resilient and flexible, understanding that sometimes nature’s whims can interfere with our plans.

Despite the postponements, the enthusiasm and commitment of our members and partnering corporations remain unwavering. We are eager to reschedule these CSR programs and continue making a significant difference in our waterways’ health and cleanliness.

Summary of Activities conducted for the Week

In summary, the following activities were done for this week:

  1. We conducted 4 CSR and 3 VIA programs which were attended by 786 participants, and together they collected a total of 433 kg of litter. It was a hectic week for us. This was besides the two postponements of CSR due to weather.
  2. This week a total of 53 members were involved in CSR/VIA programs, talk, patrols, administration, housekeeping duties, and training.
  3. The total trash collected by the patrol groups was 57 kg.
    1. Boat Patrol. 5 boat patrols were carried out; 2 at Marina, 1 at Jurong lakeside and 2 at Punggol.
    2. Bike Patrol. A total of 4 Bike patrols were carried out; 2 at Marina, 1 at Punggol and 1 at Lakeside.
    3. Pedal boat Patrol. A pedal boat patrol was carried out at Jurong lakeside.
    4. Foot Patrol. No Foot Patrol was carried out.

Once again, we sincerely thank all members and volunteers, who came for patrol or for facilitating the CSR/VIA programs, for your time and dedication to the task. Without your support we would not have been able to achieve this.
