OVERVIEW

“Rich Biodiversity in our Rivers”

What kind of biodiversity is in our river?

This week, our volunteers, facilitators and participants had the pleasure and opportunity to see various different types of biodiversity living in our rivers. From otters, fish, turtles, birds, and more, it is clear to us all that various animals call our Marina Reservoir home, and as a place they source their food. However, despite our great appreciation for the various animals and biodiversity living in the Marina Reservoir, it was also painfully clear to us that many do not take care of these animals.

From illegal fishing to the sheer number of litter in our reservoir, these habits created by residents and people who enjoy the Marina Reservoir hurt and endanger the survival of various species and animals in the Marina Reservoir. Each piece of trash we throw could be consumed by animals, and can harm them. Hence, as the people in the area, it should be highly important for us to ensure that the area remains clean and protected for all biodiversity. 

Summary of Activities conducted for the Week

In summary, the following activities were done for this week:

1. We conducted 7 CSR and 2 VIA programs which were attended by 408 participants, and together they collected a total of 369 kg of litter. 
2. This week a total of 53 members were involved in CSR/VIA programs, talk, patrols, administration, housekeeping duties, and training 
3. The total trash collected by the patrol groups was 51 kg.
   1. Boat Patrol. 5 boat patrols were carried out; 3 at Marina, and 2 at Punggol. 
   2. Bike Patrol. A total of 3 Bike patrols were carried out; 1 at Marina, 1 at Punggol, and 2 at Lakeside.
   3. Pedal boat Patrol. None was conducted.
   4. Foot Patrol. 2 Foot patrols were carried out; 1 at Lakeside, 1 at Pang Sua.

Once again, we thank all members and volunteers, who came for patrol or for facilitating the CSR/VIA programs, for your time and dedication to the task.
