Dear Friends,

OVERVIEW

“Treasures found in the rivers of Singapore”

What did we find in our rivers this week?

A lot of interesting things. Tennis balls. Paint cans. Even a sanitary pad. This week has been another interesting one, with our volunteers finding various “treasures” in the waters of Singapore. Although some forms of trash are extremely commonly found, from plastic bottles to masks, this week was truly a random bingo card of items found.

This raises the question of how these “treasures” managed to end up in our waters, and how much do we over consume in Singapore. How irresponsibly are we throwing out trash that would result in something as random as a paint can being in our rivers (our source of drinking water)? How do we as a society manage to consume so much, to the point where we expect trash to be in our rivers, and the homes of various biodiversity? Most importantly, how do we change this, and improve to ensure a better future for our rivers and ourselves? There is still much more education and awareness spreading we need in Singapore and it cannot be free of cost.
