This week was another very busy week for WWS. Despite Monday being a public holiday, we still managed to conduct 11 programs for both schools and corporates. We conducted three sessions of River Monster for Farrer Park Primary School on different days, a total of 66 students participated and one River Monster Junior for 21 kids from Twinkle Stars Montessori. We did three Kayak Waterway Clean-up programs for 38 participants from BHP, 20 participants from Credit Suisse and 18 children from Rainbow Center. BHP also did Pedal-Boat Waterway Clean-up with 12 participants. Other than that, American Express did their CSR with us, 30 staff on bike and 8 staff on foot. We also did a Boat Waterway Clean-up as an orientation to WWS Programs for representatives from Solutions Pte. Ltd., the new EO taking over NVPC next year (10 pax).
This week we had past our PUB inspection for Marina HQ Office. Chairman and CEO gave a joint CLC sharing at Punggol Office. CEO attended Community Garden Festival Launch, invited by NPark.
In total, 223kg of litter was collected during the programs this week.
As mentioned last week, this Monday we did internal kayak patrol and boat patrol with WWS members at Jurong Lake, nine members on kayak and eight on boat. A total of 34kg litter was collected and mostly plastic along the shorelines.
During this week, four members from Punggol team did one weekday boat patrol at Punggol Waterway and cleaned the pontoon. They picked up 1 kg of litter. On Saturday, three members did bike patrol at Marina. On Sunday morning, 10 members did bike patrol at Marina and one new member attending bike orientation and 13 members did boat patrol. On Sunday afternoon, five members did boat patrol at Punggol and six new members attended boat orientation. The new members were very enthusiastic and passion. A lot of litter found floating on the waterways after heavy rain. Also on Sunday afternoon, 11 members did bike patrol at Jurong Lakeside Garden and six new members attending bike orientation. Welcome to all 13 new members!
Saturday patrol group found that areas around Dragon Boat Jetty on Kallang Lakeside Garden and Costa Rhu Waterfront were hotspot for littering (see photo). Friday CSR program also found lots of leftover food packing by construction workers at F1 pit under Share Benjamin’s Bridge, but unfortunately there was no photo taken. Perhaps NEA would like to send reminders to such contractors.
Based on the Sunday report of Marina Reservoir, a few cartons of new Oolong Tea soft drink were abandoned at Kallang Riverside Park near lamp post A-3/34 (see photo). Unwanted poster hardboard stand and some rubbish was found outside Kallang Wave, removed by our new member (see photo). One abandon bicycle was also found in the drain at Kallang Riverside Park below Sir Arthur Bridge (see photo). This Sunday, many illegal fishermen were engaged or sighted. Boat patrol members sighted eight illegal fishing along the Kallang Way River towards Boon Keng Bridge. While, bike patrol members gave six fishing engagements, all were compiled. Bike patrol members collected 5 kg litter but mainly plastic bag and bottle left by fisherman at the open space under Arthur Bridge, a common illegal fishing zone. Kallang Riverside Park was quite clean this Sunday, however a lot of rubbish floating near Kallang Riverside. At Punggol Waterway, a lot of litter also found floating on the Waterway after heavy rain, but there was no sign of stray and illegal fishing. On the other hand, Jurong Team member aldo collected 8 kg rubbish near Jurong Lakeside Garden Pool and educated a fisherman fishing at non fishing zone area.
