It was another busy week of activities for Waterways Watch Society. We conducted an assembly talk for Spectra Secondary School sponsored by Singapore Press Holdings (200 pax), a WWE at Lower Seletar Reservoir for Riverside Primary School (100 pax) sponsored by North West CDC, a marine talk for students from Bedok South Secondary School (26 pax) at National Sailing Centre sponsored by Marine Port Authority (MPA), and a bike and foot programme for St. Patrick Secondary School (36 pax). We also facilitated three kayak cleanup programmes this week for VEP with NVPC (40 pax), Teekay Navion Offshore Loading (40 pax) and Rainbow Centre (50 pax). Besides having activities at our Marina Office, a talk was given for 40 participants of the Centre for Liveable Cities’ City Executive Leaders Programme (City EXCEL) at Punggol.
We also had our boats, including two new vessels (RZ073 and the Catamaran), being inspected for renewal this week. Otters came to visit us as well. We are delighted to receive a small donation from the staff of Google who were involved in our programme in June. We would like to thank them for their generosity.
At Punggol, two weekday patrols and a sunday patrol (bike and boat) involving 10 members were conducted over the week. As for Marina, a total of 29 members was on duty, including 1 new member. We also welcomed a visitor from MP Louis Ng’s office to join our saturday patrol to learn of the impact of plastic pollution around our Marina Reservoir. As a result of the rain on both weekends, our patrols ended earlier than usual. Nonetheless, we did 7 fishing and 12 anti-littering engagements. We express concern on the issue of PMDs and PEBs as we continue to sight them around Punggol and Kallang Waterways. This week, we were also involved in 5 safety boat services.
