Dear Friends,

It was a hectic week for WWS. We managed three Kayak programmes – Ngee Ann Poly (20 pax), Touch Community Services (20 pax) and Youth Corps (50 pax). We also did two Assembly Talks (NWCDC sponsored Woodlands Secondary- 25 pax, Yishun Primary (sponsored by Pratt and Whitney) – 200 pax and one WWE Yishun Pond for Woodlands Secondary (25 pax). We also had one River Monster programme with All Hearts (45 pax) and one Bike Program for Youth Corps (30 pax). In addition, our CEO, Eugene Heng, did a presentation at the River Valley Y.LEAD Seminar (118 pax) and WWS members participated in Fernvale Primary World Water Day booth with over 100 student visits. We had a total of 24 members reported for duty over the weekend including three new members doing their second orientation.

During the week, we have been busy preparing for our Family Day WWD Carnival which falls on the 18th March 2018. A total of 9 fishermen were engaged during the week. There was no anti-littering engagement done. However, during our patrol, one Malaysian chinese was spotted throwing his cigarette butt on the floor at Marina Bay Sands (MBS). Our volunteers engaged and he complied. At Punggol, puppies were sighted during patrol.

During the week, our Kayak Programmes collected a total of 20 kg. Students collected a total of 3.56kg during the River Monster programme. 60% of the litter collected are plastics.

WWS also rescued a Barn Owl and handed over to Acres. The Barn Owl was spotted by a member of the public clinging onto our pontoon. (see photos)

Our Boat Patrol upstream on Sunday found no fishermen and our land patrol volunteers reported Public Events Post review is generally cleaner. We will try and patrol during the event for future ones.

Our donation drive for a demo-Pioneer boat is progressing very slowly with only about 30% of the funding required raised. We have another month to go and hope to achieve our target of S$15,000.  The boat which is handicap friendly would be good for our CSR programs for such participants as we feel that caring and knowing about the environment is for everybody. This boat will replace one of our existing boat in Marina. We are still awaiting our LTA Authority Cards and the second Computer for our PUB Body-Cam use (for Punggol).
